An outstanding basketball season for Long Reach High School came to an end last night as they fell to Frederick High School 63 to 44 in the Final 4. Here is information from Long Reach High School Booster Club Facebook Page:
The Lightning Girls Basketball senior class who redefined basketball at Long Reach had their curtain call in the MPSSAA 3A State Semifinals, a 63-44 loss to defending two-time champion Frederick.
Long Reach all-time leading scorer (girls or boys) Lyric Swann, Jaelyn Swann and Haley Thompson have played varsity ball together since freshman year in the 2015-2016 season. The year before they arrived, Long Reach won 3 games.
In the last 4 years since, Long Reach has compiled a 67-20 record (69% win percentage) while winning two Howard County and 3A East regional championships. Last year’s team reached the State Finals, also against Frederick, while winning a school-record 21 wins. They followed it up this year with an 18-win season.
Here’s a big Long Reach salute to seniors Lyric, Jaelynn, Haley, Malaya Streeter, Rebecca Ford, Inumidun Aofolaju, Ari Briggs-Hall and managers Thahina Jean-Philippe, Fremariam Debele and Jordan WIlson. You will all be missed and we thank you for all the amazing memories. What an incredible four-year run it was. #LRHSPride

As a fan of the Lightning I am sad to see the season end…but so impressed with the season they had…all the players should keep their heads up high and be proud of all they accomplished.
