Memphis Express came into week 3 as BIG TIME underdogs to the Orlando Apollos and in the end came up just short losing 21 to 17. This was one of the best performances by the Express in 2019. Here is my good, bad and ugly for the Express in this game:

Zach Mettenberger (QB) entered the game after halftime and provided a much needed spark for the Express. Mettenberger was 9 of 12 for 120 yards and 2 touchdowns and lead the Express to 17 second half points (the best half of offense this season for the Express).

Memphis Express defense was not perfect Saturday night but they did hold Orlando Apollos to their lowest point total of the season so far (previously scoring 40 points and 37 points).

Zac Stacy (RB) had carried the offense in the first two weeks of the season and after week 2 he was in a tie for the most rushing yards this season in the Alliance of American Football (AAF)…but Saturday night he was held to 29 yards on 14 carries (2.1 yards per carry) and was not the leading rusher for the team (Sherman Badie had 59 yards rushing).

Josh Jasper (K) did not have a horrible night as he went 1 for 2 on field goal attempts…but the final play of the first quarter was a Jasper field goal attempt from 41 yards out…and he missed it to the left. You have to make those field goals in the pros.

Christian Hackenberg (QB) had another bad night behind center and was pulled out of the game at halftime. His final stat line for the game was he completed 8 of 14 for 88 yards and 2 interceptions. His stats this season are 32 of 62 for 277 yards 0 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. He also has 47 yards rushing this season.

While that elusive first win continues to evade the Memphis Express, the fans saw something from this team to be hopeful about this season. The former Tennessee Titan Zach Mettenberger did an outstanding job in the second half and I look forward to watching him play even more this season. Here are some highlights from the game:
