Back on January 16th I wrote about “42,000 Members Of The Coast Guard Go Without Pay Due To Government Shutdown”…in that article I wrote about how 23 members of the U.S. Senate had cosponsored S.21 – Pay Our Coast Guard Act…and since that article two additional Senators have added their names to the bill:
- Sen. Duckworth, Tammy [D-IL] 01/17/2019
- Sen. Carper, Thomas R. [D-DE] 01/17/2019
So the question I have this morning is what are Senators Cardin and Van Hollen (U.S. Senators from Maryland) waiting on to get on board with this bill? Will they ever add their names as cosponsors to a bill that pays members of our armed services during this shutdown?
This feels like a slam dunk bill that all elected members should get behind…and I can not understand why they would not add their names (not only those from this state…but the other members of the U.S. Senate as well).
This is a bill I will continue to watch…as well as the three bills in the House on the same topic.
These service members should not be punished because the elected members in Washington can not get their act together. If you feel as strongly about this as I do…reach out to your elected representatives and tell them to pass legislation to pay our service members now!!!
