No shocking news here…but thought it worth a mention in case you were wondering what in Howard County will be open on December 31st and January 1st (via press release from Howard County Government):

Howard County Government offices, courts, animal shelter, 50+ centers, Alpha Ridge Landfill, Cedar Lane and Schooley Mill Activity Rooms, Gary J. Arthur, North Laurel and Roger Carter Community Centers, Meadowbrook Athletic Complex, Robinson Nature Center, Baltimore & Ohio Ellicott City Station Museum, and county historic sites will be closed in observance of the New Year’s Day holiday on Tuesday, January 1.

There will be no trash, recycling, food scrap or yard trim pick-up on Tuesday; the County’s holiday “slide” schedule will be in effect. For a complete explanation of the schedule, visit www.howardcountymd.gov/holidayschedule. County parks will be open on the 1st.

On New Year’s Eve, December 31st, County parks will be open. The Gary J. Arthur, North Laurel and Roger Carter Community Centers will also be open, but only until 5:00 p.m. The Robinson Nature Center is closed.

The Regional Transportation Agency (RTA) buses will operate on its regular weekday schedule on December 31, and will not run on January 1. For more information on RTA, call 1-800-270-9553 or visit www.transitrta.com. Howard County parking fees will be enforced on December 31st, but not on January 1st.

That slide schedule for trash pickup always confuses people this time of year…or at least it does in my neighborhood…so be sure to give that a look.
