We will find out later today which college football teams will be in the College Football Playoff games…and I thought I would make a prediction early this morning.

First, lets look at the current records and standings:

Next, let’s look at some of the big games from yesterday and how those game will affect the decisions made today.

#1 Alabama 35 – #4 Georgia 27

Georgia needed this win yesterday to have a shot at the playoffs. They made a great attempt even knocking Tua out of the game…but Bama has just to much talent. Georgia with two losses will not make the playoffs.

#5 Oklahoma 39 – #14 Texas 27

This was a close game until the 4th quarter but then Oklahoma stepped up and won this must win game for them and made a good statement why they should be in the playoffs this season.

#6 Ohio State 45 – #21 Northwestern 24

This was a nice win for Ohio State…but one has to wonder if this was to easy a game (playing a team outside of the top 15) to make a statement that they belong in the playoffs this season. Yes, they had no choice who they played yesterday…but at this point it is all about making the case for being in the playoffs and I am not sure that this did it for them yesterday.

#8 UCF 56 – Memphis 41

UCF continues to pick up wins…and they got another one yesterday. I am not sure that it matters…the level of competition they face all year long is just not difficult enough for the committee to add them into the playoffs…plus losing their starting QB last week does not help either.

Other games: #2 Clemson won big…no shocker and #3 Notre Dame did not play yesterday.

My Playoff Predictions:

#1 Alabama vs #4 Oklahoma

#2 Clemson vs #3 Notre Dame

Based on the win / loss records, rankings and the results of the games yesterday…this is the outcome I am predicting for today.

UCF deserves to get a big time game on January 1…hopefully against Florida or LSU.

With Tennessee and Maryland not going to bowls this season…not sure there are many other games I am all that interested in this year…but hopefully we get some great bowl games to close out the season.
