I was alerted to the fact that in some neighborhoods campaign literature is being left on mailboxes. The images above are what I received.

Did you know that this is illegal? You can read the entire regulation in the Domestic Mail Manual 508 3.1.3 Use for Mail.

This states “Except under 3.2.11, the receptacles described in 3.1.1 may be used only for matter bearing postage. Other than as permitted by 3.2.10, or 3.2.11, no part of a mail receptacle may be used to deliver any matter not bearing postage, including items or matter placed upon, supported by, attached to, hung from, or inserted into a mail receptacle. Any mailable matter not bearing postage and found as described above is subject to the same postage as would be paid if it were carried by mail”.

I highlighted the relevant part of the rule so that everyone can see it clearly.

Now I do not believe that any one candidate is responsible for this happening. I don’t actually know who did it (I would guess either Central Committee members or some outside entity that was hired to drop off campaign literature in the district…but again, I have no direct knowledge who might have put the lit on the mailboxes). I do know if they are caught doing it…there are a variety of financial fines and potentially even jail time…so take this bit of advice…stay far, far, far away from mailboxes with your campaign literature…unless you send it through the US Mail.

If I were one of the candidates in the packets (Kittleman, Bates, Kathuria and Hogan) I would be asking around to find out who is doing this and get them to stop it ASAP. This is not only illegal but it looks bad. Please address it ASAP!!!
