I mentioned in a post yesterday about one negative mailer against Gail Bates…and now I have another one to share with my readers. This one is from Friends of Katie Fry Hester (the opponent of Gail Bates in the Maryland State Senate District 9 race). Here is the mailer:

I am torn on how I feel about this (and the previous) mailer. On the one hand I have been very vocal in opposition to these type of mailers locally. On the other hand I at least respect that this came from a local campaign and not outside money. I would have respected it more had it not been just a hit piece…but been a vote Hester piece as well. They had the opportunity to do that on the back of the mailer –“We need a leader in the Senate who will protect our environment #NewYearNew9”…how in the world does that not say Vote Katie Hester in that line? And why was not part of the mailer dedicated to “this is what Katie will do for you when you send her to the State Senate”? That (to me) would have changed the mailer from a total hit piece to an actual comparison mailer…which are different mailers to me (but maybe that is just me).

I also find it interesting that the source mentioned on the front of the mailer no longer exists:  https://www.facebook.com/delegatebates…so there really is no way to fact check that statement. I am betting someone…some place has a screen shot of that statement…but for those trying to fact check…not possible given the source noted on the mailer.

At the end of the day I am against this stuff…so to my readers…when you get this stuff…you know what to do with them at this point…right in the trash!!!

Scott E’s Blog will continue to call out these type of negative attack mailers (especially from outside entities…but also from inside ones). It is my hope that by calling them out…this stops them coming into our mailboxes in the future (I know…it probably won’t…but one can hope).

  1. Lived in WHC for 20 yrs. The residents either vote straight R or straight D, with R prevailing. The mailers and signs don’t change that fact. It’s really that simple.
