I thought I would take a few minutes and show the recent Facebook outreach for candidates running for Maryland State Senate in Districts 9 and 12. Here are the numbers:

District 9:

Total followers:

  • Gail Bates holds a slight advantage with total number of page followers.

Activity:

  • Katie Hester has been the most active with 10 posts over the past week
  • Only one post from Gail Bates…that is a bit light at this point in the campaign season.

Engagement (likes, share and comments):

  • No surprise that Katie Hester leads this category…when you post often you generally get higher engagement numbers.

Engagement vs posts vs followers (this is something new I am looking at…I take the amount of engagement and divide it by the number of posts and then divide that number by the number of followers you page has…and this gives us a breakdown of really how engaging your page is). As there were only four active candidates over the past week…those will be the only four I will look at:

  • Bates (0.001 real engagement)
  • Hester (0.035 real engagement)

Hester has had the better online presence on Facebook over the past week…which can only help come November.

District 12:

Total followers:

  • Joe Hooe holds a slight advantage with total number of page followers.

Activity:

  • Joe Hooe has been the most active with 11 posts over the past week
  • Only two posts from Clarence Lam…that is a bit light at this point in the campaign season.

Engagement (likes, share and comments):

  • No surprise that Joe Hooe leads this category…when you post often you generally get higher engagement numbers.

  • Hooe (0.014 real engagement)
  • Lam (0.017 real engagement)

Lam has a slight advantage real engagement numbers…but everything else is best for Hooe who I would say had the better week on Facebook.

District 13:

Since State Senator Guy Guzzone does not have an opponent…I am not doing a review of his social media outreach in this article…I feel like he will squeak by without it.

Now that we are in the home stretch…all candidates should be active on social media (for GOTV efforts if nothing else) and should be taking some of that money they have raised and use it for campaign social media ads…and if not now, then when?
