Campaign Finance Numbers – Howard County Council District 1 – August 2018

In one (if not the) most interesting local race in Howard County…the race for Howard County Council District 1 is one I am watching closely. Here is a summary of the latest campaign finance numbers for both candidates (Kathuria and Walsh):

So here are my observations with the latest numbers:

Kathuria:

  • Holds a significant money advantage in this race today.
  • No notable items of interest in this report.

Walsh:

  • Raised the most money this past reporting period.
  • No notable items of interest in this report.
  • One thing I was interested in looking at…what does it cost for a local vote recount? The only thing I could find possibly related to that was “Legal Fees – Campaign Election Relates” paid to “Sandler Reiff” in the amount of $1,500. I am guessing that was related to the recount…but that is just a guess on my part. I did not find any other expenditure specifically related to the recount.

One thing we learned in the Primary was that money alone can not win an election…but it always helps. I am watching this one closely over the next couple of months.

Here is a link to find all of the campaign reports for any candidate…in case you want to go lookup the actual reports:   https://campaignfinancemd.us/Public/ViewFiledReports

I am planning on a lot more reports in the coming days…so stay tuned.
