In an announcement on Facebook today…Candace Dodson Reed will be resigning from the Howard County Democratic Central Committee. Here is the Facebook statement:
Sometimes in life one gets an opportunity that just speaks to their soul. An opportunity that allows them to build on a strong foundation yet still challenges them to be better.
I am blessed to be one month in as Chief of Staff at UMBC. I’m thrilled to get up every day to work for one of the most brilliant and thoughtful university presidents in the country at a place with values that align with my own.
And sometimes with new opportunities come difficult choices. After some careful consideration, I am resigning from the Central Committee effective August 5th. This decision was not easy but it’s the right decision. Thank you so much to the 16,000 people who voted for me. I truly appreciate your trust in me.
Anyone who truly knows me knows that I love Howard County. My parents moved to Columbia, Maryland from D.C. to make sure that my brother and I were raised in an inclusive, diverse, educated community. I returned to Howard County after college to raise my daughter in my home county. And it was the second best major decision I ever made. Please know that I will continue to serve our community. Just in different ways.
As Dr. Maya Angelou once said, “I’ve learned that whenever I decide something with an open heart, I usually make the right decision.” This decision was made with an open heart.
Candace Dodson Reed is member of HoCo Forward and received 16,613 votes in the latest election (the most votes of any candidate running for Democratic Central Committee Female). She is also the co-host of Elevate Maryland.
I am guessing the new HCDCC will be asking for applications in the near future to fill this soon to be open position. I will put something out on Facebook if I see it publicized.
