I have said in the past that I do not provide “endorsements” on this blog…I do not feel that is my role with this blog…I like this blog to be a place of information instead of taking sides (not that I am always successful in that regard…I do take sides from time to time)…but I can provide some recommendations (think of this as endorsement light or just a listing of some candidates I think you should consider when you go vote). The candidates I am listing are for some of the following reasons:
- I know the candidate personally
- I have had an opportunity to meet and talk the candidate
- I have talked with others about the candidate and heard wonderful things
- I have seen the candidate active in the community in the past
- I have seen the candidate active at events this election cycle
Let’s start with my recommendations for HCDCC – female candidates: (note you vote for up to 10)
- Maureen Evans Arthurs
- Candace Dodson-Reed
- Maura Cleary Dunnigan
- Suzanne R. Geckle
- Jennifer Jones
- Margaret Weinstein
I only recommended 6…but you can vote for up to 10 HCDCC female candidates. Note – if you did not make this list, that does not mean I don’t like or support you…I just made this the cutoff for this post.
Now let’s look at my recommendations for HCDCC – male candidates: (note you vote for up to 10)
- Scott A. Berkowitz (seriously, how could I not recommend someone named Scott…LOL)
- Rich Corkran
- Pravin Ponnuri
- Shahan Rizvi
- Jeremy Eldridge
- Bob Ford
- Dhaval Shah
- Herbie Smith
I recommended 8…but you can vote for up to 10 HCDCC male candidates. My original plan was to only list 6 (as I did with the previous list above) but I just could not cut my recommended list down to 6 for this list. Note – if you did not make this list, that does not mean I don’t like or support you…I just made this the cutoff for this post.
Trust me when I say these were not easy choices…and it was difficult to leave some other candidates off of these lists. I hope readers use this as a guide to go out and learn about all of the candidates…who they are, what they stand for, what they have done in the community and how they have campaigned for the office they are seeking.
Obviously I am not a slate person…not that I have anything specifically against slates…I just like making choices based on the individual and not the team. That is just my thing when it comes to picking my favorite candidate(s) for any office.
I may update this list before the 26th with additional recommendations…completing my list to 10 candidates for each list above. There are a couple of candidates that come to mind for my updated list…but there are still a great many I do not know well enough to add just yet. I know time is short before voting begins…but holding out hope that I get to know enough of the other candidates in order to add them to the updated post in the future.
In my next scheduled post I will be putting out some recommendations for candidates seeking election to the Howard County Republican Central Committee (or at least that is my plan at the moment). I also have a few other ideas for upcoming posts and maybe even a new podcast soon (I have not done one of these in a while)…so stay tuned!
