Pre-Primary Report 1 numbers have been submitted by all candidates running for Howard County Council in 2018. This is a follow up from posts back in April 2018 and January 2018. We have just over a month before the primary and many candidates can be found all over the county at various forums and events. How are they doing with raising and spending money this cycle…here are the numbers:
Comments: I have to say that these numbers surprised me a bit. Now look, neither candidate has a primary opponent so this is not a big deal…but Liao has an actual money advantage in this race and that could play out well for him down the road if it stays that way.
Comments: These are the most interesting numbers of the various races County Council…Moller-Knudsen once again filed a ALCE (see below). Kim is very short on cash but she does not have a primary opponent so not a big deal today but it will be later if things stay this way for her campaign. Jung had a very nice amount raised amount (best of all CC candidates) but also a high spend amount (also the highest of any candidate). Then it gets odd…Siddiqui filed a report back on March 20th to correct the report back in January (that is the $76,000 in and out of the campaign account) but does not have a updated filing since then…so did she miss the deadline or was the report back in March all she needed to do this time around (the filing period does say 05/22/2018 Pre-Primary1 Gubernatorial on that filing). Because the reporting period for Pre-Primary 1 goes through May 15th, I would assume that she would need to submit a new report…but there is nothing out there as of this morning. If someone has some insight…let me know.
May 24th update: Siddiqui releases an updated report on may 23rd:
Comments: Yungmann looks much stronger (in terms of money) than Walsh at the moment. Yungmann raised more cash and has more cash on hand…he also spent a lot of money this reporting period. Williams did a good job of raising funds and her spend rate seems perfect for someone that does not have a primary opponent. She is banking and building her cash for the general…a very smart move in my opinion.
I did not comment on Districts 1 and 3…I have done some work for candidates in those races and as not to be biased…I have decided to let the numbers speak for the candidates in those races. I am sure other reporters and bloggers will make comments in the following days and weeks.
For those not familiar with Affidavit of Limited Contributions and Expenditures (ALCE), it states: “Pursuant to §13-305 of the Election Law Article, Annotated Code of Maryland, we, the undersigned Chairman and Treasurer, hereby declare that we do not intend to receive contributions or make expenditures in the cumulative amount of $1,000 or more”
Districts 3, 4 and 5 continue to be the races to watch…so be sure to stay tuned. You can find the online outreach resource for each candidate here: https://scotteblog.com/2018-howard-county-technology-outreach-scorecards/
The next filing deadline is June 15th…I will update this chart when the new numbers are released.
Early voting starts June 14 and runs to June 21st.
