Tomorrow night (February 27th at 9:00pm) is the filing deadline for candidates seeking office in Maryland. Here are a few things I am watching for on the State Board of Elections website:

Howard County Board of Education – we currently have 8 candidates filed to run for 4 seats. Will any of the incumbents seek re-election this cycle? I have also heard a couple of names that are considering entering this race…will they get in before the deadline?

District 12 – Clarence Lam is the only candidate filed to run for State Senate…will it stay that way? The Delegate race could see one or more last minute candidates…will they decide in time?

District 13 Senate – Guy Guzzone does not have an opponent (primary or general)…and I have not heard any rumors about anyone getting into that race before the deadline…so the question here is when will the re-election party happen?

Republican Central Committee – While Howard County Democrats are filing left, right and sideways to serve on the HCDCC (22 total candidates – 8 female & 14 male), not a single filing has happened by Howard County Republicans to serve on the HCRCC. Maybe they have a plan to hop in a van today or tomorrow and file together as a group…but it is odd that not a single filing has happened…right?

Cynthia Fikes – Will she remember to withdraw from the Howard County Council District 4 race before the deadline…and if not, that should cause an additional stir to what has already been a crazy primary filing season for district 4.

Those are the things I have an eye on over the next couple of days…have additional things I should be watching out for…be sure to let me know.
