CB30 – AN ACT establishing a voluntary Citizens’ Election Fund system – Passes

In case you missed it last night, CB 30 (AN ACT establishing a voluntary Citizens’ Election Fund system for candidates for County Executive or County Council) passed the Howard County Council. This should not be a shock to anyone…the voters voted for this measure back in the 2016 election.

With 4 votes, it is now veto proof. The questions is will Allan Kittleman go ahead and veto it and send it back to the Council for an override vote?  I think it would be a mistake if he does send it back. The public voted for this, the Council passed it…the fight feels like it should be over now.

I understand both sides of the CB30 argument and am still a little on the fence about how I personally feel about this legislation. I say let’s give it a chance to see if it really works for the candidates and citizens in Howard County.  This will either be a really good thing or a bad one that future members of the Council can correct.

What are your thoughts in CB30?
