Happy 2016 to all. Here is the third installment of the Technology Outreach evaluation of this race. You can read the December Scorecard HERE where Chrys Kefalas was named the online outreach leader. Now on to the new evaluation…

Twitter Followers

Chrys Kefalas

4,673 (+465)

14,600+ (+300)

Richard Douglas

2,009 (+5)

322 (+5)

Kathy Szeliga

4,492 (+503)

1,372 (+62)

  • As of right now Szeliga is the only “major” candidate that has not filed their paperwork with the SBOE (I would love to know why). There is an additional candidate, Anthony Seda – I am holding off adding him to the scorecard for now due to lack of online outreach.
  • Facebook – Szeliga added the most new followers and Kefalas holds a very slight edge on total number of followers. I would basically call it a tie between Kefalas and Szeliga on this platform.
  • Twitter – I was happy to see the numbers for Kefalas jump up again (after dropping 500+ followers last month). Szeliga added a decent number of new followers (but more activity would help on this channel).
  • Other – No new YouTube videos from Kefalas or Douglas in the past month. Still no channel or videos from the Szeliga campaign.
  • Issues for the candidates to work on:
    • Douglas – Continues to link their Facebook and Twitter accounts. Bad, bad, bad..please stop. It would also be nice to see a post in 2016…we are 5 days into the new year and we have not heard from you yet.

A significant factor in evaluating online outreach is looking at follower engagement. In January, I am back to focusing my reviews on Facebook engagement. Here are the numbers for the candidates over the past week:

  • Szeliga had the best week in terms of Facebook follower engagement (likes, shares and comments).
  • Kefalas was the most active on Facebook with 13 posts.
  • Douglas…maybe on vacation? Not sure because there have been no posts on the Facebook account associated with the campaign.

Online Outreach Leader in this race: Chrys Kefalas. This gets closer every month but here is how I came to my decision this month: Kefalas holds a significant advantage on Twitter (and has some YouTube videos), Szeliga has a slight advantage on Facebook but not enough strength to make up the deficit on Twitter.

Of course the reality of followers, likes, and subscribers does not mean a lot when it comes down to voting in the end, but it can show trends in a campaign cycle and makes a great resource for following all of the candidates.
