  • Facebook – Beck added by far the most new followers of any candidate over the past month. I find it interesting that Steny Hoyer actually lost followers.
  • Twitter – Beck lead all candidates with adding new followers. Faddis had an impressive number of new Twitter followers on the GOP side of this race.
  • The Beck campaign lists LinkedIn, Pinterest, YouTube, Instagram and Tumblr on the campaign website.
  • Candidates that need to fix some issues:
Beck – I really like all of the social media links but the links should look consistent. Use icons or use text but the mixing of both does not look professional. Also the front page is WAY to long. It takes forever to scroll to the bottom of that and other pages on the website. One final recommendation is to unlink your Facebook and Twitter accounts. Want to know why? Read this: CLICK HERE
Arness – The social media links should be on the front page (not just the contact us page). Also, you have a YouTube channel…list it as well. You have still not posted a tweet since May…might be a good time to starting using that account if you are going to list it on the website.

A significant factor in evaluating online outreach is looking at follower engagement. In December, I am focusing my reviews on recent Twitter engagement. Want to know how i get the numbers? READ THIS. Here are the numbers for the candidates over the past week:

Engagement Score

7 (of 40 tweets)

  • Beck dominates engagement over the past week on Twitter with an engagement score of 108.
  • Faddis was the most active over the past week with over 40 original tweets. This actually might be to active on this platform and could actually hurt your overall engagement with followers.
  • Arness has not tweeted since May and Hoyer had only 1 tweet over the past week (actually only 1 tweet so far in the month of December).

Online Outreach Leaders in this race: Kristin Beck. Beck is by far adding the most new followers as well as winning the follower engagement battle of all candidates in MD05. Faddis is the clear leader on the GOP side of this race.

Of course the reality of followers, likes, and subscribers does not mean a lot when it comes down to voting in the end, but it can show trends in a campaign cycle and makes a great resource for following all of the candidates.
