I have reviewed the Twitter outreach in two of the Maryland Congressional races (CD04 & CD08) and thought I would mix it up for this evaluation and take a look at the candidates and their early Facebook outreach. Like my previous evaluations, it is very early and I feel confident that more candidates will enter this race in the future so this is just a starting point for future evaluations.

Notes – Chris Van Hollen holds a big follower advantage in this race at the moment. Time will tell if this equates to votes in 2016.
Engagement – Followers are only one factor in looking at social media outreach numbers. Engagement is an equally (if not more so) important factor. Here are the Facebook engagement numbers over the past week for each of the pages:

No surprise that Chris Van Hollen has had the best engagement numbers based on his total number of followers advantage. Chrys Kefalas numbers are a bit low due to no posts between July 4th and July 10th. Might be a good idea to not let that happen going forward.
News – Van Hollen trounces Edwards in second-quarter fundraising: Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) far outpaced Rep. Donna Edwards (D-Md.) in fundraising for the second quarter, as the two battle for the Democratic nomination for a U.S. Senate seat in Maryland.
Van Hollen on Wednesday announced he raised close to $1.5 million in the second quarter, bringing his total cash on hand to $3.5 million. Over the weekend, Edwards announced that she raised $590,000.
Edwards did not say how much she had in the bank at the end of June, but she ended the first quarter with only about $325,000 on hand.

Thanks – I wanted to say a quick thank you to Jonathan Shurberg for promoting the social media outreach numbers on his Blog. I have become a daily reader of this blog and highly recommend it to everyone. Check it out at http://marylandscramble.com/.
I hope you all enjoy the remainder of your weekend.
