A new mobile app for Howard County residents has recently hit the Apple iTunes store: HowardOnTap. As soon as I came across this information I went out and downloaded the app to see what was in it and how it worked.
There was also a Baltimore Sun article about the app: CLICK HERE
Here is information about the app from the App Store:
The HowardOnTap app offers a craft beer trail experience like no other with fast and easy access to the burgeoning craft beer scene centered in Howard County, Maryland. All the information you need for area breweries, brew pubs, ale houses, and more is in the app! Visit all the Trail Stops and be awarded with an official HowardOnTap souvenir glass plus become eligible to win awesome prizes! The app tracks your progress and lets you know when you’ve completed the trail. Once completed you can travel the trail again for another cool souvenir. Integration with Facebook and Twitter makes sharing your journey easy and fun! You will also be the the first to know what’s happening at your favorite beer attractions with the On Tap and Events features. Booking hotel rooms, rides with Uber or taxis, and even tours can be easily done using the Rooms, Rides & Tours feature. Travel the trail over time or all at once with participating tour and travel partners. Hotel and tour packages are available. Download HowardOnTap today to begin a ‘hoptastic’ adventure.
·Access to area beer attractions
·Trail completion incentives & prizes
·Social media integration
You must be 21 or over to travel the trail.
Always drink responsibly
Certain rules and restrictions apply to contests and trail completion incentives.
It is an informative app for local residents. I really like the fact that is has the “Trail completion incentives & prizes” aspect to the app. That provides some interactivity and a potential fun experience for users. The cab listing and Uber functionality is wonderful.
Areas of improvement for future releases:
- The “Event” tab could be ordered differently. The most current events would be better at the top of the page (just reorder the events and it will be better)
- Create an actual iPad version. Yes the iPhone version will run on the iPad but an actual iPad version would be better.
- Add social media feeds from each company – If the Twitter and/or Facebook feeds were on the brewing companies pages it would be a nice added feature.
Overall: I would give this app a 3.5 out of 5 stars (I rated it with 3 stars in iTunes…3.5 was not an available option).
I hope you all have a wonderful 4th of July weekend.
