Maryland Senate District 9 Race This is my final evaluation update of the weekend. This should be a very competitive race and it will be interesting to see how these candidates use social media for outreach. I missed out on the Howard County Fair today but I was able to make it out to the Columbia Mall and I very much enjoyed the movie Hercules.

Now on to this evaluation…

The candidates:

Ryan Frederic –

Gail Bates (Delegate District 9A) –

The Scorecard: (Click the “Yes” or follower numbers below to view the social media page)

Ryan Fredrick

349 (+46)

80 (+27)

Gail Bates

276 (+56)

Comments: The big story of this evaluation is around the Bates team and their significant expansion on social media. Now maybe they planned this social media expansion post Primary all along or maybe someone has been reading my comments on previous scorecards (I like the idea that they are reading my comments so I will go with that one).

Gail Bates had the largest number of new Facebook followers, now lists Twitter on her website and holds a significant follower advantage, launched a new YouTube page and lists her profile on LinkedIn. Just down right much more impressive social media profile compared to what was listed a couple of months ago.

Ryan Frederic continues to hold the overall Facebook follower advantage and showed OK growth on Twitter since the June evaluation. With the Bates team expansion I will be very interested to see how this team responds going forward.

I am going to hold off picking an outright leader to see how these accounts trend over the next month. I am planning to choose a leader next month.

Here is a look at the Facebook activity over the past week of the candidate pages in this race: (Bates had more posts and slightly better engagement over the past week).
