Here are my takeaways from the scorecard above:

Ryan Fredrick added the most new Facebook and Twitter followers over the past month. This is a continuing trend on Facebook for this team and they have to be pleased with their progress. One note – updates more often (daily) would be even more helpful.

Daniel Medinger remains very active on all of his channels for outreach. I really enjoy seeing new YouTube videos published from this team and daily updates on the other channels. Better use of political related hashtags on Twitter would be useful (#HoCoPolitics, #MDPolitics).

Gail Bates has been very quiet on social media (only one post on Facebook in the month of May so far). As such she obtained the least number of new followers. We will see if this trend changes after the primary next month.

It is still difficult to pick an outright leader in this race. Frederic seems to have the momentum but Medinger has more outreach and is better at regular updates. I generally like what both are doing and as such will continue to call this a draw for now. It is hard to argue that Bates is a distant third based on overall outreach and lack of activity.

Of course the reality of followers, likes, and subscribers does not mean a lot when it comes down to voting in the end, but it is a fun exercise to do and makes a great resource for following all of these candidates.

HoCoBlogs HoCoBlogs has a great resource for local candidates. I would say it is a must read for everyone running locally: http://hocoblogs.wordpress.com/for-elected-officials/

I read this post on Facebook last night “The African American Coalition of Howard County will be hosting a candidate forum tomorrow at the Owen Brown Interfaith Center in Columbia for candidates for the state legislature in districts 9, 12, and 13, as well as other elected positions, starting at 8am”. I think I might venture out and see who all attends and meet some of the candidates I have not had the opportunity to talk to up to this point.
